This aircraft was the last C-141 built. It was used for VIP transportation and
also flew the Bob Hope tour around during the Vietnam war and the first gulf war.
It was CINCMAC's (later AMC) transportation as well.
It was cleaner than the
average C-141....actually was cleaner than ANY other
C-141! Very low hours (about 21,000) -- about 1/2 the normal C-141.
After AMC moved
to C-17's, the aircraft was assigned to a standard airlift role
and flew heavily in the gulf war II conflict carrying wounded troops to immediate
care in Germany and back home stateside for longer term care. It was last based
at Wright-Patterson.
67-0166 was supposed to fly to the boneyard during the 3rd
week of January 2006
but was given an 11th hour reprieve and will now be placed on static display at
Scott AFB (Home of MAC/AMC). On April 7th, it made the LAST FLIGHT ever of a
C-141 on a 'line' mission, flying from Wright-Patterson to Scott AFB.

Don Reports: This is a photo of the 'Welcome Aboard' sign
that was used on MAC
166 for many years. I acquired the sign while 0166 was in Refurb. I was out doing
some job or other on her and I saw the sign sitting on the cargo floor (It
normally being bolted to the forward bulkhead next to the cockpit ladder, if I
remember correctly). The crew chief came down from the cockpit and told me I
could have it if I wanted as it was going in the trash, being replaced by a new
one. How could I say no to that! I show it to anyone who might care(or Not!).
The following series of photos was submitted to the site by John Mills. These were taken prior to 9/11 (as you can see) and were obviously a planned photo flight for what reason is anyone's guess at this point. But they are great shots of C-141 in flight over New York and the McGuire AFB area!

On April 7th, 2006, 67-0166 made the last flight of a C-141 on a 'line' mission. The aircraft was flown from Wright-Patterson to Scott AFB, and carried a few space-A passengers. Larry Stultz send me photos of the departure from Wright-Patterson a few hours after it left and here they are:

And a final copy of the status of 166 submitted by Dave Grant. I've highlighted a few interesting numbers....total hours: 22,185.5, about half the 'norm' for the C-141.
